As any town in America, it has transformed itself over the decades, once the largest sheep ranching area in the USA, now a beloved ski and summer recreation area. The Alpine Club was located in the heart of town on Main Street, where Whiskey Jacques now stands. A gathering place for many including Ernest Hemingway. Mary Hemingway described the place as “very fun and gay,” and reported where Hemingway had his first steak in Ketchum for .85 cents.
